A sunny plant from India , commonly grown in Asia and Africa for 4000 years. It was an important herb used only for medicinal purposes in the 16th century in europe , but became the most important and one of the best culinary herbs in the 17th century. Basil is the easiest herb to grow and thankfully mine is still surviving after being with me

When I ate it the first time, it sent my senses tingling. The taste buds on my tongue burst with happiness and joy ! I remember playing an important part of the making process, “the official taster” and that too with huge dollops of home made butter ( venna/makkhan). I have very fond memories of it. Amma always used it as treat to lure me to eat my beans and veggies. There were days when I would throw a tantrum and not eat even though I was hungry, just to eat it.

I entered her world and became the brightest star in her universe. Tears, laughter, anger and amusement were a few of the expressions I would bring to her. All that she could see and think was me, loving me a little more as each day passed. She taught me to give unconditional love without expecting anything. Humility, Charity and Gratitude are few qualities she instilled in me while teaching me to be a better human everyday. Most importantly, she taught me the importance of failures in life and resilience to bounce back, taking bigger strides to move ahead. Always a part of her dreams, I carry forward her hopes and aspirations.

I’m glad to be back after more than a month. I have missed all those wonderful recipes from my dear fellow bloggers and I will soon patrol all the blogs and leave my trail. I had to keep away from the computer, firstly because of a 3 week rest period and then a relapse again. I couldnt be away any longer and so , here I’m wondering what to make next in my kitchen. The most I missed was the fresh meals I normally cooked everyday. I never said No, when my dear friends offered food , I took it all
