The Space between Us

Thrity Umrigar’s first book  left me enthralled at the Hyderabad airport. I was waiting to catch the flight back to where home is now . I had an option to spend between a sad cup of coffee for 100 bucks or this book. I opted for this book and I’m glad that last of the Indian currency that I had with me was not wasted.

Fig-O-licious

Last month was the first time I joined this book club which chooses extraordinary books for us to read and post a recipe inspired the book. The book chosen to read was : Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K Jerome. A classic story which starts with a serious note about 3 men , the narrator and his 3 friends , who think they have various illnesses decide that they are overloaded with work and decide to take a holiday. They first thinkof going into the sea and then settle on the river Thames thinking its going to be easy on them . The story goes on from here about how they embark the journey and the incidents occurring , thus turning it into a humorous piece of work. A typical set of Englishmen who love their tarts , jams etc

Granola Revisited

I am always on the search for quick recipes, meals for a breakfast. As much as I can cook an elaborate meal, I really dont like to work hard in the kitchen for breakfast. I hated honey bunch of oats , the moment I had my first taste of cereal. Being a “pakka desi” as my husband puts it across, I was someone couldn’t adapt to the american breakfast of cereal and orange juice for a long time and clung to the Indian way of living for a long long time. It took a while to wake up open my eyes and look around adapt to the good of this diverse culture and enjoy the best of both worlds. Though my food and my blog focus mostly on Indian food, I enjoy various other cuisines with the same eagerness and gusto.

Whole wheat and rice flour Dosas

A quick prep work is all what one needs to make these wholesome , tasty dosas. They are perfect for a lazy weekend breakfast. I make them more often than the normal dosas as I just have to mix flours and its ready !
