Friday Finds and Awards
After a disastrous week , I found some solace after some surprise awards and some great finds and came back home , a happy person.
I had to drive about 48 miles one way to get these… but what is more pleasurable than eating Indian mangoes ?? I found these lovely sweet kesar mangoes , it cost me a small fortune for a dozen , adding to the fuel prices… but the experience was well worth the price .
Junagadh is famous for Kesar Mangoes (Saffron Mangoes). As the name suggest Kesar mangoes are very sweet and looks like saffron color.( Source : Wiki )
Another find in the local indian grocery store was this,
Mamidi thandra ( Dried mango Pulp), made from combining sugar and mango pulp , layered , dried and cut into slabs
And now comes the awards part :

i used to wait for kesar mangoes in july in india. they taste awesome and cost less than half of the alphonsos.

The mangoes look so delicious Dee. It’s long time since I have eaten juicy mangoes. My mother has told me that she will get the Banganapalli, while coming here. I love those. I also like the platter very much. Wanted to get that for a long time now.

We would go any extreme to get our slice of mangoes. The dull mango pulp just does not do it for us

@bee, yeah Bee, K can tell me all the other varieties …. I grew up eating alphonsos and banginapalli.. thats all Im aware of.. Kesar is a new guest in my home!

@ rc , trust me, one wouldnt want to know what kind of things I do, I make sure my friend sends me a huge box of kashmiri rajma from dallas, of course he pays for the postage and rajma, I went to NY last month and got the Panera 3 cheese bread.!!! the guy there was looking at me as if i were out of my mind !we dont have panera here and it wont come here… K has just got used to it
